MaxiBed can be used in chicken coops

I have now used MaxiBed for my hens for the past year and a half. I keep 10 rare breed hens and a couple of cockerels. Previously I had used shavings and straw, finding both very dusty and shavings especially difficult to muck out – as it always seemed to stick together.

I heard about MaxiBed from a friend who used it for her horse. I found it better to use from the start as it is much easier to get out of the bag. Unlike shavings it almost pours out of the open bag and contains no dust.

I use a full bale to bed up as my coop is quite large and this gives me around 2” depth. I muck it out every few days with a fork, leaving the bed beneath. I don’t put any fresh bedding in at all as it doesn’t need it. Instead I’ll empty the coop completely every month or so and start again. I mix the muck in with the compost. I can’t imagine using anything but MaxiBed now. I certainly wouldn’t consider going back to shavings or straw again. My hens and cockerels love it too!
