Hot Water and Heating Solutions
We have a farmhouse and a few acres in North Yorkshire. It’s a wonderful setting although in winter the location can be cut off in bad weather. Everyone around us uses oil or LPG boilers, as we did until recently. Having thought about log, chip and pellet boilers for some time, we took the plunge and installed a boiler that would run on wood chip, pellet or even wheat, as we thought it was best to keep our fuel options open. It’s not a large system but it does all our heating and hot water.
Since having it put in we are delighted with it. Out installer provided a few bags of HotPellets to start us off and we’ve stuck with them. We buy them by the half pallet and lift a few bags into the boiler room ready for topping up. To top up all we do is open the lid of the boiler hopper and pour in a full bag of pellets. The boiler does the rest!
After we decided to put this system in, a lot of people commented that it would take a lot of work to keep the boiler going. In fact, we’ve found that it’s no more effort than our old oil boiler. It’s completely automatic apart from emptying the ash can occasionally, which we empty into the compost heap! Looking at the latest oil and gas price rises, it was definitely the right decision.
