Open fIre
We have an open fire and enjoy lighting it over the winter months. We tend to have a bed of coal with a log or two on top. For years we said that logs look and smell really nice when burning but the effect was always spoiled by the fireguard which was always needed to stop sparks spitting onto the carpet.
We then started using HotBlocks, initially because we couldn’t get hold of seasoned logs. We love them!
We still light our fire in the traditional way, with sticks and kindling before adding coal and then placing two HotBlocks on top. We’ve found that the fire stays in for ages. Much longer than before, and we now only put the guard in front of the fire when we leave the room as the HotBlocks don’t spit. We still get the same look and smell of a wood fire but without the problems. We buy them in the smaller 12 packs as we prefer a lighter lift these days. Mr & Mrs Linton, Scottish Borders
