FAQs

Are HotBlocks harmful?

No, HotBlocks are justifiably an eco-wood fuel as they are made entirely from clean waste wood. We carry out checks before the waste wood goes into our shredders to ensure that it conforms to our quality standards. We don’t use contaminated timber or non-wood materials such as MDF, chipboard or other types of particle board. Wherever possible any traces of these materials are excluded. No adhesives or binding agents are used to ‘stick’ the chips together. HotBlocks burn so cleanly they produce little or no harmful tarring residues in the chimney flue.

How long can HotBlocks be stored for?

If stored correctly HotBlocks can be stored for as long as you need retaining their quality and performance. HotBlocks are carefully packed by hand into high quality weather resistant packaging.

How much ash is left behind?

HotBlocks leave behind very little ash, in fact only around 1%. The fine powdery ash can be used in the garden as a soil conditioner or mixed in with the compost heap.

Are HotBlocks eco-friendly?

Yes, HotBlocks are made entirely from clean waste wood such as damaged un-repairable pallets and crates that have reached the end of their useful life. We don’t cut down trees to make briquettes! Even our packaging is eco-friendly as we use biodegradable paper sacks or weather resistant packs that can be recycled after use.

How do you light your wood burner with Hotblocks wood briquettes?

This couldn’t be simpler and in many ways is easier than lighting a traditional wood or coal fire. Light and use in the same way as coal or logs or follow our ‘Hotblocks’ guide to light without kindling and paper! Watch our How To! video to learn more.

How are HotBlocks briquettes made?

Clean waste wood is collected locally from our base in East Yorkshire. It is then shredded and milled and any metals are removed. The milled wood is then dried to a moisture content of below 10% to improve the fuel efficiency of the finished Hotblocks. The briquettes are then compressed into the dense fuel efficient blocks.

How many HotBlocks do I need?

What sort of delivery access do I need?
