Maxibed

Horsemart - Review editors choice

I am fanatical about my stable bed being clean and tidy, I can’t bare a messy dirty bed. I have always used hunter wood shavings and thought I would never change! UNTIL I bought a 3 yr old - how much he has digging his banks out and burying his mess! My perfect bed was trashed on a daily basis and very wet, I was taking out 2 barrow loads a day and using 2 bales of shavings a week costing over £15, and to be honest some weeks a third!

When Maxibed asked me to try their bedding I will be honest, it took some persuading! I was sent 30 bales and told to use 12 to start the bed. I wasn't sure at first as it was so much heavier than the shavings and just not as fluffy!

HOWEVER let me tell you that this is the way forward! Here’s the results:-

Heavy and stays put, so not totally trashed in the morning. Clean and quick to muck out - and I mean less than half the time. I can now leave the wet in for a few days. No smell - Super absorbent AND... I only use 1 - 2 new bales per week saving me £10 - LOVE IT - the whole yard has converted

MaxiBed for Chickens

I have now used MaxiBed for my hens for the past year and a half. I keep 10 rare breed hens and a couple of cockerels’. Previously I had used shavings and straw finding both very dusty and shavings especially difficult to muck out – as it always seemed to stick together. I heard about MaxiBed from a friend who used it for her horse. I found it better to use from the start as it is much easier to get out of the bag. Unlike shavings it almost pours out of the open bag and contains no dust. I use a full bale to bed up as my coop is quite large and this gives me around 2” depth. I muck it out every few days with a fork and leaving the bed beneath. I don’t put any fresh bedding in at all as it doesn’t need it. Instead I’ll empty the coop completely every month or so and start again. I mix the muck in with the compost. I can’t imagine using anything but MaxiBed now. I certainly wouldn’t consider going back to shavings or straw again. My hens and cockerels love it too!

HotBlocks

Wood burning stove

I use Hot Blocks as a fuel for my wood burner. Providing I keep the door of the wood burner closed shut the Hot Blocks heat the whole of my 1,000 square foot bungalow. The Hot Blocks burn hotter than coal in our wood burner and I use only 3 blocks to keep the fire in through the night.

Hot Blocks are clean and easy to use, I store them outside in my shed before bringing them in by the pack ready to burn as and when I need them. A full pallet lasts me a year!

HotPellets

Save with bulk bags

We installed a medium sized pellet boiler to run our farmhouse and 3 holiday cottages. This was a substantial investment for us but justified by the ever increasing price of heating oil. The boiler set up required a large bunker to automatically feed the pellets into the boiler hopper on a continuous basis. Initially we sourced our pellets of the grade suggested by the boiler installer and shopped around for the best price. The boiler never worked well or consistently until we started to buy HotPellets. Previously the problems we had were too much clinker build up in the firebox and far too much ash! The boiler installer tried several times to adjust the settings but couldn’t sort it.

We buy HotPellets in 1ton bulk bags. We use the farm tele-handler to lift the bags over the bunker, then open the discharge chute at the bottom of the bag. The boiler installer adjusted the settings again for us and we’ve never looked back. After the early frustrations, we are now delighted with the boiler thanks to HotPellets.

MaxiMulch

City Garden

MaxiMulch is perfect to place around shrubs and plants. Placed at a depth of 50mm (2”) or more MaxiMulch provides long lasting weed protection.

We live in a terraced house situated within the historic walls of York City Centre. We have a small walled garden at the rear of the house which we have filled with planters and pots. Although we don’t have a large area, we use mulch mainly to retain moisture as everything dries out too quickly otherwise. Bark mulch is too big and course and doesn’t seem to stop moisture evaporating. MaxiMulch is far better. It’s also much cleaner and easier to use. It never seems to let any weeds take hold either, but the big thing is that it lets water through without washing away yet retains the moisture brilliantly. We recommended it to everyone!

WasteMax

Waste Wood

We are a distribution company delivering goods all over the UK. Most of our deliveries go out on pallets and we were constantly asked by our customers to take away their unused empty pallets for them. Whenever possible we avoided doing this as we had no way of disposing of any that were damaged. We heard about WasteMax and the products that they made from waste wood. We now work together with WasteMax and collect all pallets from our customers. All the re-usable pallets are either used again by us or we sell them on. WasteMax take everything which is un-repairable (as long as it’s clean!). Our customers really like this extra service!
